No. 23 Truman State prove to be too much for Eagles

EVANSVILLE, Ind.--- After a difficult four-set loss to Quincy University Saturday, the University of Southern Indiana volleyball team was unable to recover falling in straight-sets to 23rd-ranked Truman State University Sunday afternoon in the Physical Activities Center.

The Eagles fall to 6-7 in league play, 12-8, overall, while the Bulldogs remain undefeated in conference play at 13-0.

USI battled with Truman State at the start of each set, but multiple-point runs by the visiting team proved to be the deciding factor in their three-set sweep of the Eagles.

Three TSU players totaled double-digit kills ending the match as a team hitting .258, while limiting the Eagles to a season-low .092.

Leading the Eagles were senior outside hitter Lauren DeShaney (Appleton, Wisconsin) and junior right side hitter Erica Oberbroeckling (Westfield, Indiana) who totaled eight and seven kills, respectively. Also aiding in USI's offense were sophomore middle blocker Amy Zwissler (Bloomington, Indiana) and freshman Shelbi Morris (Brazil, Indiana) who put down six kills each.

Defensively, Oberbroeckling led the Eagles with a match-high 18 digs. Junior defensive specialist Erin Goldschmidt (Smithton, Illinois) followed up with 13, while freshman libero Jessica Lee (Mackinaw, Illinois) added an additional 12.

With just two weeks left in regular-season action, the Eagles are slated to finish all five remaining games on the road.

USI heads to Louisville, Kentucky, Wednesday to take on Bellarmine University before heading west to face University of Missouri St. Louis Saturday, November 1, followed by Maryville University Sunday, November 2.

The following weekend, the Eagles head north to finish the regular-season with St. Joseph's College and University of Indianapolis.
