Unanswered second half goals dooms USI

ROLLA, Mo. – The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team allowed a pair of unanswered second half goals and fell to Missouri University of Science & Technology, 2-1, Sunday afternoon in Rolla, Missouri. USI goes to 3-9-2 overall and 2-8-2 GLVC, while Missouri S&T watches its records go to 7-7-0 overall, 7-5-0 GLVC.
 
The Screaming Eagles took a first half lead for the first time since the season opener when junior defender Megan Herrington (St. Charles, Missouri) scored her first goal of the year and give USI a 1-0 lead at 31:42. Herrington put away a rebound of a shot by sophomore forward Kaelin Martlock (Bay City, Michigan) that had hit the cross bar.
 
The second half belonged to the Miners as they erased the Eagles' 1-0 lead with a tally at 52:24 and scored the game-winner 71:33. USI would have one shot and two corner kicks the rest of the way, but could not get the equalizer.
 
Overall, the match was even in shots, 21-21, while USI had a slight advantage in corner kicks, 8-6.   
 
USI has three matches remaining in the 2014 regular season schedule, two of which will be at home. The Eagles start the home stretch of the campaign Friday at 5 p.m. when they host McKendree University for Senior Night at Strassweg Field before traveling to the University of Illinois Springfield October 26. The final USI home of 2014 is October 29 at 5 p.m. when the Eagles host Bellarmine University at Strassweg Field.
