EVANSVILLE, Ind.--- In a hard-fought, five-game match, the University of Southern Indiana volleyball team overcame Drury University, 3-2, in Great Lakes Valley Conference action at the Physical Activities Center Sunday. The Screaming Eagles battled through a tough Drury defense, and a team hitting average of .162 to squeak out the win.

USI (9-3, 3-1 GLVC) improves its winning streak to three, while the Panthers fall to 6-8 overall and 1-3 in the GLVC.

Sophomore right side hitter Erica Oberbroeckling (Westfield, IN) led the attack for USI, recording her first double-double of the season, with 18 kills and 18 digs. She was two blocks shy of recording a triple-double, ending the night with eight. Junior outside hitters Fawn Ryan (Batesville, IN) and Lauren DeShaney (Appleton, WI) also added double-digit kills with 16 and 11, respectively.

USI got out to a fast start with a 12-6 lead, and didn't let up taking game one to the very end with a 25-21 win over the Panthers.

Down 4-0 in set two, the Eagles had to strike back. USI went on a six-point run tying it up at 12-12, and forcing Drury to call a timeout. The Eagles took control of the game grabbing the set two win, 25-22.

It was a back and forth game throughout game three. Drury tied it at 24-24 to send the game into the proverbial overtime. Back-to-back kills by Sara Borneman and Laynie Timmons allowed for the Panthers to take game three, 26-24.

Drury came out with a vengeance in game four, looking to push the match to the deciding game five. After a close game in the early going, the Panthers began to make a run, taking a 20-12 lead. Both teams shared points, en route to a 25-21 Drury win and a 2-2 tie for the match.

As to be expected, game five was as close as it gets. Drury's Kaleigh Cole started off with a kill for the first point of the game, but freshman middle blocker Amy Zwissler (Bloomington, IN) answered right back putting one down for USI. The Eagles ran away with an 8-4 lead but the Panthers didn't let things get out of hand and quickly tied the game and 10 points a piece. With neither team leading by more than two points the rest of the game, game five would need extra points to be decided.

Tied at 15-15, two Panther attack errors, first by Borneman, and then Maddie Halford, ended the game and the match, giving the Eagles the 17-15 game and the 3-2 match win.

Senior setter Jorae Bradbury (Decatur, IN) kept the pace on the court with 46 assists, while senior libero Kayla Heldman (Greenwood, IN) tallied 21 digs.

USI will hit the road this weekend to face Saint Joseph's College on Friday and University of Indianapolis on Saturday. Friday's match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m., while Saturday's is slated for 2 p.m.
