EVANSVILLE, Ind.--- The University of Southern Indiana volleyball team's efficient offense was too much for Great Lakes Valley Conference West Division foe Missouri University of Science & Technology as the Screaming Eagles swept the Miners, 25-14, 25-12, 28-26, in its home-opener at the Physical Activities Center.

The Eagles improve to 8-3 overall and 2-1 in the GLVC, as the Miners dropped to 6-5 overall (2-1 GLVC).

Junior outside hitter Lauren DeShaney (Appleton, WI) slammed 16 kills to the hardwood and the defense held Missouri S&T to a .056 hitting percentage.

USI dominated in the opening set, allowing just 14 points and -.057 hitting percentage to Missouri S&T. The second set was much of the same and the Eagles earned the 2-0 match lead with a convincing 25-12 win in set number two.

The Eagles grabbed a 6-0 lead in set three, but it proved to be the toughest of the night for USI, as Missouri S&T forced nine ties and took the lead twice. Tied at 26-26, a service error by Emily Jaeger followed by a ball handling error by Allie Plunk, gave the Eagles the needed points for a 28-26 match-win.

Senior setter Jorae Bradbury (Decatur, IN) guided the Eagles' offense with 29 assists, while senior libero Kayla Heldman (Greenwood, IN) and sophomore right side hitter Erica Oberbroeckling (Westfield, IN) had 21 and 15 digs, respectively.

Heldman, who currently has 1,443 digs, is 48 away from becoming the school's all-time leader.

The Eagles return to action Sunday at 1 p.m. when they host Drury University at the PAC. The Panthers fell to  Bellarmine University, 1-3, Saturday night in Louisville, Kentucky.
