EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana softball team announced that Avon High School's
Sadie Foster (Plainfield, Indiana) has signed a national letter of intent to compete for Head Coach
Sue Kunkle's Screaming Eagles in 2014.
A member of AHS's 2011 IHSAA Class 4A state finalist team, Foster earned multiple All-Conference honors during her prep career.
As a senior, Foster hit a blistering .500 with 22 runs scored, eight doubles, a triple, and 17 RBIs. She hit .394 with 21 runs scored, three doubles, a triple, and eight RBIs as a junior in 2012.
In travel ball, Foster competed for the Indiana Gators, helping her squad to the Amateur Softball Association of America (ASA) World Series and the 2012 USA ASA National Tournament.
“Like our other signees, Sadie is an all-around athlete,” Kunkle said. “She has great defensive glove skills and that will help us in the middle infield.”
Foster is the first player to join the Eagles during the late signing period and the fourth since last fall. She joins catcher/utility player
Grace Clark (Indianapolis, Indiana), catcher/third baseman
Haley Hodges (Portage, Indiana), and left-handed pitcher/outfielder
Alisha Ludwig (Terre Haute, Indiana) in USI's freshman class next season.
USI completed the year with a 30-22 overall record and a 17-15 mark in GLVC play. The Eagles reached the 30-win plateau for the first time since 2008 and the NCAA II Tournament for the first time since 2006.
