Game Notes for USI vs. KSU
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The 11
th-ranked University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team is hosting a former Great Lakes Valley Conference foe, Kentucky State University, Saturday at the Physical Activities Center. Tip-off is slated for 3:15 p.m.
The Screaming Eagles will be hosting the Thorobreds for just the second time since KSU left the GLVC in 1995-96 for the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. USI, which is 16-3 all-time against the Thorobreds, had a 15-3 record against KSU in GLVC action between the 1989-90 and the 1994-95 seasons. The Thorobreds' best finish in the GLVC was fifth in 1992-93.
In addition to looking for a victory over an old conference foe, the Eagles also are hoping to get
Rodney Watson his 100
th win as a head coach. Watson, who is averaging nearly 24 victories per year, is fourth all-time at USI in victories with 99.

USI Men's Basketball vs. Kentucky State Notes:
Eagles are 11th in the top 25. USI rose to 11th in the first NABC/Division II poll of 2013-14. The Screaming Eagles have been ranked 146 of the last 178 Division II ranking weeks since 2000, including 76 weeks in the top 10 and four weeks at number one.
USI goes 2-0 in Bill Joergens Memorial Classic. The Eagles went 2-0 in the Bill Joergens Memorial Classic for the sixth-straight year, defeating King University, 94-72, and Indiana University Southeast, 89-87.
Eagles overcoming double-digit deficits. The last minute victory over IU Southeast marked the second time in three games that the Eagles had to overcome a double-digit deficit to get the win. USI came back from 13-points down against Lake Erie College and 20-points down against IU Southeast.
Nelson dominates classic. USI senior forward
Aaron Nelson dominated the Bill Joergens Memorial Classic by averaging 25.5 points and 13.5 rebounds per contest. His 14 rebounds in the win over King tied a career-best.
Schumann leads late half surges. USI junior guard
Gavin Schumann led a pair of late half surges in the win over IU Southeast. Schumann helped the Eagles cut a 20-point deficit to 10 points by scoring seven of USI's 16 points to close out the first half and clinched the victory with the final seven points of the game.

Gavin Schumann made an impact in the Bill Joergens Memorial Classic with 19.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2.0 steals per contest.
Number 14 marks career-best games. Senior forwards
Taylor Wischmeier and
Manny Ogunfolu posted career numbers during the Bill Joergens Memorial Classic. Ogunfolu scored a career-high 14 points in the win over King, while Wischmeier grabbed a career-best 14 rebounds versus IU Southeast.
Non-conference foes have tough going against USI. USI has started the year with a four of non-conference wins and is 181-20 (.900) against non-GLVC teams during the last 21 seasons. Of the 20 losses, two have come in the NCAA Division II Tournament Finals and three in the NCAA II Great Lakes Regional.
