QUINCY, Ill.---University of Southern Indiana junior outside hitter Lauren DeShaney (Appleton, Wisconsin) smacked 13 kills with no errors in 23 swings, as the Screaming Eagles volleyball team needed just 70 minutes to dispatch Quincy University, 3-0 (25-20, 25-12, 25-20) on Sunday afternoon in Quincy, Illinois. USI, who hit .239 as a team and held the Hawks (8-16, 2-11 GLVC) to just .060, improve to 20-6 overall and 11-2 in conference action.

The Hawks put up a fight in the opening frame, but not enough to stop USI from grabbing the set, 25-20.

Game two would prove to be another strong set for the Eagles, getting off on the right foot with a 25-12 win. In that second frame, USI would fall into one tie with Quincy, but the Eagles would never surrender the lead, much thanks to an outstanding offensive effort. Led by six kills from DeShaney and three from right side hitter Erica Oberbroeckling (Westfield, Indiana), the Eagles hit .393 as a team, smashing 12 kills with one error in 28 attempts. USI's defense was also on fire, coming up with five blocks, two of which were solo attempts by sophomore middle blocker Abbey Winter (Germantown, Illinois).

The Hawks grabbed an early 3-1 lead in set three, but USI answered back with a 6-0 run forcing Quincy to call a timeout. USI held their lead until the Hawks went on a 3-0 run of their own, tying the game at 18-18. The visiting Eagles eventually hammered out the seven remaining points needed for the match win.

Senior setter Jorae Bradbury (Decatur, Indiana) tallied a match-high 31 assists, while sophomore defensive specialist Erin Goldschmidt came up with a team-high 15 digs. Senior libero Kayla Heldman (Greenwood, Indiana), Bradbury and Oberbroeckling added 12, 10 and 10 digs, respectively. Winter led at the net with six total blocks.

USI returns to action Saturday when it takes on Maryville University at 5 p.m. in the Physical Activities Center.
