Aurora, Ill.--- After falling in three to Northern Michigan University at the beginning of the season, the University of Southern Indiana volleyball team got the revenge it was looking for Friday afternoon sweeping the Wildcats, 3-0, in the first round of the Mizuno Great Lakes Valley Conference/Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Crossover tournament in Aurora, Illinois.

Sophomore right side hitter
Erica Oberbroeckling (Westfield, Indiana) led the attack for USI with nine kills, while sophomore middle blocker
Abbey Winter (Germantown, Illinois) added eight and hit a blistering .500 attacking percentage.

Senior setter
Jorae Bradbury (Decatur, Indiana) paced the Eagles on the court tallying 22 assists.

Leading the defensive effort was senior libero
Kayla Heldman (Greenwood, Indiana) with a match-high 20 digs. Winter, Oberbroeckling, and freshman middle blocker
Amy Zwissler (Bloomington, Indiana) led at the net with three blocks apiece.

It was an outright battle in the opening set as both teams rallied for the lead. Down 20-19, the Wildcats tried to pass USI but committed multiple errors allowing the Eagles to take the first set 25-20.

The Eagles dominated in set two outhitting NMU .346 to .167. Several multiple-point runs boosted USI to a 22-13 lead. The Eagles eventually grabbed a 25-16 set-win and a 2-0 lead over the Wildcats.

Although USI was able to grab an early 13-8 lead in set three, Northern Michigan eventually fought back tying the game at 19-19. Oberbroeckling slammed a kill down off a pass from Bradbury to put USI ahead. The Wildcats saw the hope of a third-set win disappear committing three-straight errors, pushing the Eagles to a 23-19 advantage. USI would grab the next two points earning the set win and a sweep over the Wildcats.

USI continues tournament action tomorrow when it takes on Saginaw Valley State University at 10:30 a.m. followed by Grand Valley State University at 4:30 p.m.Â
