SOMERS, Wis.--- After snapping Lewis University's seven-game winning streak on Friday, the University of Southern Indiana volleyball team kept the winning momentum going, defeating the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, 3-1, Saturday afternoon in Somers, Wisconsin.

With the win, the Screaming Eagles improve to 13-4 overall and 7-2 in Great Lakes Valley Conference action. On the other side of the net, the Rangers drop to 10-8 overall, 4-5 in conference.

Junior outside hitter Fawn Ryan (Batesville, Indiana) led the Eagles with 14 kills and attacked with a team-high .289 percentage. Sophomore middle blocker Abbey Winter (Germantown, Illinois) assisted seven of USI's nine blocks and contributed eight kills. Defensively, senior Kayla Heldman (Greenwood, Indiana) led USI with 21 digs, while junior right side hitter Erica Oberbroeckling (Wesfield, Indiana) and sophomore defensive specialist Erin Goldschmidt (Smithton, Illinois) added nine apiece.

The Eagles and Rangers would trade the first two sets with USI coming out on top in the first, 25-20, and UWP in the second, 25-15. Ryan led the Eagles in the opening set with six kills and one error on 10 attempts. UW-Parkside bounced back in set two, limiting the Eagles to just seven kills and outhitting them .312 to .000.

It was clear both USI and Parkside were going to battle for each point in set three. Both teams suffered from errors and long rallies wore down each side, but ultimately the Eagles prevailed and took the set and a 2-1 lead.

Down 7-5, the Eagles went on a 4-0 run to put them ahead 9-7. USI would eventually lose its lead as the Rangers answered back with a 4-0 run of their own. No team lead by more than two points during the remainder of the set. Up 23-22, Winter tried for a kill to reach match point, but it traveled out of bounds. USI then called a timeout to slow the game down. Back from the break, Ryan put down two kills to end the game in favor of the Eagles.

USI returns home for a 7 p.m. non-conference match against Kentucky Wesleyan College on Tuesday at the Physical Activities Center.
