EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana volleyball team looks to bounce back from its first Great Lakes Valley Conference loss of the year when it takes on Saint Joseph's College Friday at 7 p.m. in Rensselaer, Indiana, and No. 9 University of Indianapolis Saturday at 2 p.m. (CDT) in Indianapolis.
USI (6-8, 4-1 GLVC), which had a six-match winning streak come to an end with a three-set loss at Lewis University this past Saturday, is currently tied for second in the GLVC East Division and can move into at least a three-way tie for first with a pair of wins this weekend.
After opening the year with seven straight losses, the Screaming Eagles have won six of their last seven contests and have been doing so with a high-powered offense led by junior setter
Jorae Bradbury.
Bradbury is averaging 11.37 assists per set during the Eagles' resurgence and has their offense roaring to the tune of a .295 attacking percentage.
Freshman middle blocker
Abbey Winter and junior middle blocker
Emily Diedrich have been the Eagles' most consistent attacking threats during the last seven matches. Winter is hitting .405 with a team-best 1.00 blocks per set, while Diedrich is attacking at a .379 clip with 0.58 service aces per frame.
Saint Joseph's (3-11, 0-5 GLVC), which hosts the University of Saint Francis (Indiana) Tuesday night, has lost six straight matches heading into the week. The Pumas had won three of four contests prior to their six-match slide.
Indianapolis (11-2, 5-0 GLVC), one of two teams in the GLVC with unblemished conference marks, has won eight consecutive matches entering the week. The Greyhounds, who host Taylor University Tuesday night and Kentucky Wesleyan College Friday night, defeated Eagles in four sets in opening round of the NCAA II Midwest Region Tournament a year ago after splitting the regular-season series.
