ROMEOVILLE, Ill.—The University of Southern Indiana volleyball team saw its six-match winning streak come to a close Saturday evening as host Lewis University pinned a 25-18, 25-21, 27-25 loss on the Screaming Eagles.

USI (6-8, 4-1 GLVC) led 17-15 in the opening set and 20-17 in the third frame, but the Flyers rallied in both games to earn the victory.

In game one, Lewis (8-6, 4-1 GLVC) scored 10 of the final 11 points, including eight consecutive tallies at one juncture, to earn the seven-point win and build a one-set lead in the match.

USI's passing off the Flyers' serve hurt it throughout the contest, particularly in the first stanza when Lewis recorded four aces.

The Eagles and Flyers were tied, 7-7, early in the second set, but three Lewis runs of 3-0 sent the Eagles into an insurmountable 20-14 deficit.

After building a late three-point lead in the third set, the Eagles found themselves on the opposite end of a 4-1 push that allowed the Flyers to pull even at 21-21.

USI, which held a 22-21 lead, fought off a pair of match-point situations later in the frame before a kill by senior middle hitter Carly Perschnick clinched the two-point win and a three-set sweep for the Flyers.

Perschnick led Lewis with 11 kills and a .611 attacking percentage, while senior right side hitter Emily Meyer paced the Eagles with 11 kills and a .292 attacking percentage.

Junior setter Jorae Bradbury had a match-high 35 assists to go along with 10 digs in the setback, while junior libero Kayla Heldman had a team-leading 14 digs. Heldman, who needs just 38 digs to become the ninth player in school history to reach 1,000 in her career, moved into 10th all-time at USI in that category.

USI returns to action Friday at 7 p.m. when it travels to Rensselaer, Indiana, to take on Saint Joseph's College. The Eagles conclude their four-match road trip next Saturday at 2 p.m. (CDT) when they visit No. 9 University of Indianapolis.
