EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team completes its longest homestand of the season when it host the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Lewis University Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Strassweg Field.
The Screaming Eagles (4-2-0, 3-1-0 GLVC) are flying high with a three-match winning streak after sweeping the first half of the homestand last weekend. USI slipped by the University of Missouri-St. Louis, 3-1, last Friday and used a second-half offensive explosion to fly past Maryville University, 6-2, Sunday.
Leading the way for USI in the first half of the homestand were senior forward
Susan Ellsperman (Newburgh, Indiana), who had eight points on three goals and two assists, and freshman forward
Madi Vellky (Dublin, Ohio), who had five points on two goals and one assist. Ellsperm and and Vellky also are one-and-two in the season-scoring column for USI.
Ellperman has a team-best 10 points on a team-high four goals and two assists. Vellky is close behind with seven points on three goals and one assist.
The Rangers of UW-Parkside (3-2-1, 2-2-0 GLVC) slipped in the last week in the GLVC, losing twice on the road. UW-Parkside had started the year by winning three of its first four matches, including a sweep in the first weekend of conference play.
USI trails in the all-time series with UW-Parkside, 9-8-2, after falling to the Rangers, 2-0, in the first round of the GLVC Tournament last October. The squads did battle to a 0-0 tie during the regular season last fall.
The Flyers of Lewis (4-2-0, 2-2-0 GLVC) split last weekend on the road in the GLVC. Lewis started the year by winning three of four at home to begin the 2012 campaign, 3-1-0.
The Eagles lead the all-time series with the Flyers, 12-3-1, after defeating Lewis, 2-1, in double-overtime last year in Romeoville, Illinois. USI also has won the last seven matches in a row against Lewis.
