USI vs. UMSL starts four-game homestand
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team opens the 2012 home schedule Friday when its starts a four-game homestand at Strassweg Field. The homestand starts at 7:30 p.m. Friday against the University of Missouri-St. Louis and reaches the halfway point at noon Sunday versus Maryville University.
The Screaming Eagles (2-2-0, 1-1-0 GLVC) started 2012 campaign by splitting a four-game road swing. The road trip split included a 3-1 loss at 21
st-ranked Quincy University and 1-0 victory at the University of Illinois Springfield to open Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
Offensively, USI was led on the road trip by junior forward
Julia Kohnen (Florissant, Missouri) and freshman forward
Shelby Tarantino (Loveland, Ohio) with four points each. Kohnen, who scored the game-winner against UIS on Sunday, has four points on a pair of goals, while Tarantino has four points on one goal and two assists.
Between the posts, freshman goalkeeper
Jackie Lohmann (Owensboro, Kentucky) has a 2-2-0 mark. Lohmann has a 1.75 goals against average and has made 21 saves in 360 minutes of action.
The Tritons of UMSL (0-2-1, 0-1-0 GLVC) visits Strassweg Field still in search of their first victory of the season. UMSL, which had its first GLVC match of the year against Bellarmine University postponed due to weather, lost 4-1 Sunday to McKendree University.
USI trails in the all-time series with UMSL, 10-7-0, but has won two of the last three match-ups. The Tritons won last fall's contest, 2-0, in St. Louis, Missouri.
The Saints of Maryville (1-2-0, 0-1-0 GLVC) started 2012 with a 3-2 overtime victory over Concordia University, but have lost their last two matches to Upper Iowa University and Bellarmine. The Saints had their GLVC opener with McKendree postponed due to weather.
The Eagles lead the all-time series with the Saints, 2-1-0, after defeating Maryville, 1-0, last year in St. Louis.
Following this weekend, USI wraps up the four-game homestand September 21 and 23 when it hosts the University of Wisconsin-Parkside and Lewis University, respectively.
