USI led from start to finish in the win over UW-Parkside to get its second season-sweep of the year. Eagles' senior guard
Brandon Hogg (Edwardsville, Illinois) hit a three-point bomb to start the scoring and three points would be all the closer the Rangers would come in the game.
The Eagles would close out the first half with a 21-point, 41-20, lead at the intermission after shooting 58.6 percent from the field (17-29) and 70 percent (7-10) from beyond the three-point arc. The 21-point advantage was USI's largest of the opening 20 minutes.
In the second half, senior forward
Isaac McClure (Paducah, Kentucky) took command by scoring 12 of his game-high 20 points as the Eagles extend the halftime lead to as many as 34 points, 74-40, with five minutes to play. McClure was a blistering six-of-nine from the field in the second half as USI pulled away to the 77-50 victory.
McClure was followed in the scoring column by Hogg, who had 14 points, and sophomore guard
Lawrence Thomas (Springfield, Illinois), who dropped in 11 points.
Overall, the Eagles broke the 70-point barrier for the first time in five games to get back on track. USI also did the job on defense, posting nine steals and nine blocks, while outrebounding UW-Parkside, 43-33.
USI resumes action Saturday at 3:15 p.m. for Homecoming when it hosts Lewis University. The Flyers rose to 14-8 overall and 6-8 in the GLVC after upsetting KWC, 82-74, in Owensboro, Kentucky, this evening.
