Eagles face UIndy to restart GLVC Tournament

EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- The Great Lakes Valley Conference named University of Southern Indiana senior guard
Brandon Hogg (Edwardsville, Illinois) first-team All-GLVC, while junior guard
Kenyon Smith (Chicago, Illinois) was selected for the first annual GLVC All-Defensive team.
Hogg leads USI and is tied for eighth in the GLVC in scoring with a career-high 15.9 points per game. He also is 11
th in the GLVC in three-point field goals made per game and 24
th in the league with 4.7 rebounds per outing.
The senior guard surpassed the 30-point plateau twice this season, recording a career-high 31 points in USI's victory over St. Catharine College and 30 points in the season-opening win over Ohio Dominican University. He also posted his first-career double-double with 26 points and 11 rebounds versus Indiana University Southeast.
Within the GLVC regular season, Hogg led USI with 14.3 points per game and had a season-high 25 points on the road at William Jewell College.
Smith has been USI's top defender all season, leading the team with 44 steals and 6.5 boards per game. He also ranks seventh in the GLVC in rebounding despite standing just 5-foot-11 and giving an average of 7.3 inches to the other members of the conference's top 10.
On the boards, Smith has gathered in 169 rebounds this season with 106 coming on the defensive end of the court. The junior guard supplements his defensive contributions with 6.8 points and 3.2 assists per game.
Hogg, Smith, and the Screaming Eagles continue GLVC Tournament play Friday when they face the University of Indianapolis in the 8:30 p.m. quarterfinal game Friday at the Prairie Capital Convention Center in Springfield, Illinois. The fifth-seeded Eagles and fourth-seeded Greyhounds meet in the final game of the men's quarterfinals, which includes third-seeded Northern Kentucky University versus sixth-seeded Kentucky Wesleyan College (noon); second-seeded University of Missouri-St. Louis versus seventh-seeded Drury University (2:30 p.m.) and top-seeded Bellarmine University versus eighth-seeded Lewis University (6 p.m.).
UIndy took both meetings with USI earlier this season, winning 59-56 at the Physical Activities Center in January and 65-59 in Indianapolis earlier this month. The Eagles, however, lead the all-time series with the Greyhounds, 44-32.
Hogg led the Eagles against the Greyhounds this season, averaging 16.5 points per outing, while senior forward
Isaac McClure (Paducah, Kentucky) and sophomore guard
Lawrence Thomas (Springfield, Illinois) followed with 11.5 and 10.5 points per game respectively. Hogg and McClure also tied for the team lead with 7.5 rebounds per contest against UIndy.
A win Friday night would put the Eagles into the GLVC semifinals against the winner of the Bellarmine-Lewis match-up Saturday at 8:30 p.m. The GLVC Tournament Championship game is slated for Sunday at 3:30 p.m. in Springfield.
