DECATUR, Ala.—A day after recording a pair of late come-from-behind wins, the University of Southern Indiana softball team could not find the same magic as it fell to Truman State University, 2-0, and No. 2 University of Alabama-Huntsville, 4-1, Saturday in the second day of the Ringor Charger Chillout.

Truman State (2-1) struck the Screaming Eagles for a run in the bottom of the first inning and scored another in the second inning to build a 2-0 advantage.

The Eagles (2-2) missed out on a golden scoring opportunity in the top of the second inning after getting a pair of runners into scoring position with just one out. Truman State hurler Kelsea Dorsey, however, fanned the next two batters she faced to end the Eagles' threat and keep USI off the scoreboard.

USI got leadoff runners on base in the fourth, fifth, and seventh innings, but could not capitalize as Dorsey sent the next three batters in each frame back to the dugout. In total, the Eagles left five runners on base.

Sophomore pitcher Madeline Brink took the loss for the Eagles in her season-debut. Brink (0-1) gave up two runs, one earned, off eight hits in six innings of work.

Alabama-Huntsville (8-0) used three home runs to dispel the Eagles in USI's second game of the day. The Chargers got a two-out, solo shot from catcher Cortney McNett in the top of the second inning to build a 1-0 lead.

USI took advantage of a wild pitch in the bottom of the inning to match the Chargers' tally, but a two-out, two-run blast off the bat of leftfielder Mary Kelley in the top of the third inning followed by a solo shot by Stephanie Needham in the next at-bat propelled Alabama-Huntsville into a 4-1 lead heading into the last part of the third frame.

The Eagles, who out-hit the Chargers, 6-5, had scoring opportunities in the third, fourth, and sixth innings. USI, however, stranded eight runners on base as it failed to push another run across the plate.

Freshman pitcher Brooke Harmening was charged with the complete-game loss after surrendering four runs, all earned, off five hits and four walks. She falls to 2-1 with the decision.

USI's softball games Sunday against Lander University and the University of West Georgia have been cancelled due to severe weather forecasted in the Decatur, Alabama, area. The Eagles return to action February 28 when they host future Great Lakes Valley Conference foe McKendree University in their home-opener at the USI Softball Field.
