LEBANON, Ill.—Buoyed by 6-0 spurts midway through the first and third sets, the University of Southern Indiana volleyball team recorded a 25-17, 25-22, 25-17 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over host McKendree University Saturday afternoon.

The Screaming Eagles (16-13, 12-4 GLVC) turned a 12-11 lead in the opening frame into a comfortable 18-11 cushion with their first 6-0 run. They used their second 6-0 spurt to transform a 13-11 edge into a commanding eight-point lead in the third set.

McKendree (14-15, 8-8 GLVC) rallied from an early five-point deficit in the second stanza, cutting USI's lead to just one point late in the frame, but kills by freshman middle blocker Abbey Winter and sophomore outside hitter Lauren DeShaney stopped the Bearcats' comeback bid and gave the Eagles a three-point win as well as a two-set lead in the match.

DeShaney, who hit .350, recorded eight of her nine kills in the second and third sets, while Winter finished with six kills and a match-high six blocks.

Freshman right side hitter Erica Oberbroeckling paced the Eagles with 11 kills and eight digs, while senior outside hitter Abbi Williams added 10 kills. Junior setter Jorae Bradbury racked up a match-high 37 assists and guided the Eagles' offense to a .254 attacking percentage, while junior libero Kayla Heldman and freshman defensive specialist Haley Bowden had 14 and 11 digs, respectively.

USI, which concluded its 2012 schedule Saturday, returns to action Friday at 7 p.m. when it hosts Lewis University at the Physical Activities Center. The Eagles conclude the regular season next Saturday at 3 p.m. when they host the University of Wisconsin-Parkside for Senior Day at the PAC.
