EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana volleyball team closed out the regular-season Saturday with a tough 25-20, 26-24, 14-25, 25-22 setback to the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Saturday afternoon.

After suffering a five-point loss in the opening set, the Screaming Eagles had two opportunities in the second frame to grab a victory and even the match at a game apiece.

Wisconsin-Parkside (21-9, 10-8 GLVC), however, sandwiched a pair of kills around two USI attacking errors as it scored four straight points to end the frame with a two-point win and build a two-set lead in the match.

USI (16-15, 12-6) dominated the third set as it used runs of 8-1 and 6-0 to earn an 11-point victory and cut the Rangers' lead in half.

The Rangers, who hit .333 in the first frame, used a 7-2 run midway through the fourth set to build a commanding 18-12 lead. USI won seven of the next nine rallies to close the Rangers' lead to 20-19, but Wisconsin-Parkside answered with two quick points to steal momentum from the Eagles.

Sophomore outside hitter Lauren DeShaney and freshman right side hitter Erica Oberbroeckling had 18 and 15 kills, respectively, to lead the Eagles offensively. Junior setter Jorae Bradbury finished with 43 assists and 21 digs, while junior libero Kayla Heldman racked up 31 digs.

Heldman, who notched 30-plus digs for the second straight match, needs just two more to tie Amanda Probst's single-season school-record of 475 (2004). She currently ranks fourth all-time at USI with 1,206 career digs.

The Eagles, who are slotted in as the fourth seed from the GLVC East Division Saturday, open Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament play Friday against the GLVC West Division's top seed, Missouri University of Science and Technology, at the Indiana South Sports Academy in Indianapolis, Indiana. The official GLVC Championship Tournament bracket will be announced Sunday evening.
