EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team begins the stretch run of the 2012 season on the road in Missouri when it travels to Drury University Friday in Springfield and Missouri University of Science & Technology Sunday at Rolla. Game time Friday at Drury is 5 p.m., while kickoff at Missouri S&T is noon.
The Screaming Eagles (6-5-1, 5-4-1 GLVC) are looking to get back on track after going 1-3-1 in the last five matches. Despite the slide, USI is still in position to make the GLVC Tournament, currently tied for the sixth spot and just 2.5 games from the top four in the league.
Senior forward
Susan Ellsperman (Newburgh, Indiana) continues to lead the Eagles this season with 17 points on six goals and five assists. She is tied for the seventh in the GLVC in goals and assists.
The Panthers of Drury (6-5-1, 4-5-1 GLVC) had been on a roll, winning three of four matches with a tie before losing the last two matches. Drury was shutout by Bellarmine University and McKendree University by identical scores of 2-0 on the road last weekend.
USI trails Drury in the all-time series, 5-2-0, but has won the last two meetings with the Panthers. The Eagles defeated the Panthers, 3-1, last year at Strassweg Field and 1-0 in overtime on the road in 2010.
The Miners of Missouri S&T (5-7-0, 3-7-0 GLVC) have struggled over the last seven matches, going 1-6-0, since starting the year 4-1-0. Missouri S&T also was shutout by both Bellarmine and McKendree last weekend.
The Eagles lead the all-time series with the Miners, 7-3-0, and have won the last three meetings. USI defeat Missouri S&T, 1-0, last year at Strassweg Field.
Including this weekend, USI is playing four of its final five matches of 2012 on the road. The Eagles conclude the current road trip October 19 at McKendree before coming home to Strassweg Field October 21 to play Bellarmine on Senior Day. The final regular season game of 2012 is October 24 at Kentucky Wesleyan College.
