EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana volleyball team saw its rally from a one-set deficit cut short Friday night as No. 10 University of Indianapolis dealt the Screaming Eagles a 25-19, 20-25, 25-22, 26-24 setback at the Physical Activities Center.

USI (12-13, 8-4 GLVC), which suffered its first home loss of the season, overcame a bumpy start to the match by holding the Greyhounds to a .021 attacking percentage in the second game. The Eagles racked up five blocks in the second set as it recorded the five-point win to even the match at a set apiece.

UIndy (23-3, 12-0 GLVC), which jumped out to an early five-point advantage in set three, used a 6-0 spurt late in the third set to build a 24-17 cushion. The Eagles, however, battled back, scoring five consecutive points before the Greyhounds were able to close the frame with a three-point win.

Despite suffering loss in game three, the Eagles used the late momentum they gained to jump out to a commanding seven-point advantage early in the fourth stanza.

UIndy, though, slowly and methodically chipped away at the Eagles' cushion, using small two and three-point rallies to close the gap.

The Eagles saw their lead disappear late in the fourth set as Indianapolis tied the frame at 22-22. USI won the following rally, but Indianapolis countered with back-to-back points to grab 24-23 edge.

USI fought off the Greyhounds' first match-point opportunity, but a kill by UIndy's Kristina Kerrigan followed by a UIndy block sealed the Eagles' fate.

Senior outside hitter Abbi Williams led the Eagles offense with a season-high 15 kills and a .386 attacking percentage, while sophomore outside hitter Lauren DeShaney had 12 kills and four blocks.

Junior setter Jorae Bradbury recorded 41 assists and 14 digs, while junior libero Kayla Heldman and junior outside hitter Kristy Gerardot had 23 and 10 digs, respectively. Freshman middle blocker Abbey Winter added nine kills and a match-high eight blocks.

The Eagles return to action Saturday at 3 p.m. when they host Saint Joseph's College at the PAC. The Pumas (6-19, 1-11 GLVC) fell to Kentucky Wesleyan College in three sets Friday night in Owensboro, Kentucky.
