EVANSVILLE, Ind.—University of Southern Indiana sophomore outside hitter Lauren DeShaney had a match-high 14 kills to go with a .379 attacking percentage as the Screaming Eagles' volleyball team recorded a 25-12, 25-12, 25-15 victory over visiting Kentucky State University Tuesday night at the Physical Activities Center.

USI (11-11), which improves to 7-0 at the PAC this year, hit .312 in the opening set while holding the Thorobreds to a negative .031 attacking percentage. DeShaney hammered down six kills in eight attempts during the first set as the Eagles cruised to a 13-point win and a one-game advantage.

The Eagles used a 13-3 run and a .276 attacking percentage to earn another 13-point win in the second set before closing the match by winning eight of the final nine points to earn a 10-point win in game three.

USI was aided by the play of senior setter Ashley King, who came off the bench to record 20 assists, three kills, and four service aces in the second and third sets. King had a run in the final stanza in which she rang up three consecutive aces.

Freshman middle blocker Abbey Winter, who had seven kills and a .333 attacking percentage, also aided the Eagles' serving game as she recorded three aces.

The Eagles, who finished with a season-high 14 aces as a team, returns to Great Lakes Valley Conference play Saturday at 5 p.m. when they visit the University of Missouri-St. Louis. USI stays in St. Louis Sunday for a 1 p.m. match at Maryville University before resuming GLVC East Division play October 26 against No. 10 University of Indianapolis.

USI's bout with Indianapolis is the Eagles' “Dig for the Cure” match.
