USI concludes homestand with UIndy and SJC

Game Notes

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The seventh-ranked University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team welcomes the University of Indianapolis and Saint Joseph's College to the Physical Activities Center this weekend for a pair of GLVC East Division showdowns. USI is slated to play UIndy Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and conclude it three-game homestand against Saint Joseph's Saturday at 3:15 p.m.

The Screaming Eagles, who remained in the seventh slot in the NABC/NCAA Division II Top 25 poll for the second straight week, are off to a thrilling start with a 72-57 victory over second-ranked and this week's top-ranked Kentucky Wesleyan College. Senior guard Brandon Hogg (Edwardsville, Illinois) and sophomore guard Lawrence Thomas (Springfield, Illinois) led the way for the Eagles with 16 points each.

USI's victory marked its first top-10 win over KWC since 2009-10 when the sixth-ranked Eagles defeated the 10th-ranked Panthers, 74-69, in Owensboro, Kentucky. The Eagles also defeated a top-5 Panther team for the first time since 1999-2000 when USI did it twice in one season.

The victory over KWC came on the heels of USI road wins over William Jewell College, 80-71, and Rockhurst University, 63-31. The 31 points by Rockhurst was the lowest point total allowed in a game all-time by USI.

Individually, Hogg continues lead USI and is sixth among GLVC scorers with 17.6 points per game. Senior forward Isaac McClure follows Hogg in the USI scoring column with 14.3 points per contest.

The Greyhounds of UIndy (12-3, 5-2 GLVC), who are in their fourth season under the direction of former USI All-American and national player of the year Stan Gouard, come to the PAC in the midst of a three-game winning streak and having won seven of their last eight games. UIndy, which defeated Saint Joseph's on Monday night, 88-86, is led by senior guard Adrian Moss, who is third in the GLVC with 19.9 points per outing.

USI leads the all-time series with UIndy, 49-16, after the teams split two GLVC games last year. The Eagles, who have won the last nine-of-10 meetings at the PAC, lost at home on a last second shot, 70-68, last January, but won on the road, 90-70, last February.

The Pumas of Saint Joseph's (6-9, 1-6 GLVC), who visit KWC Thursday night before coming to the PAC, have lost four of the last five games after Monday's defeat by UIndy. Senior guard Phillip Collins tops the scoring column for the Pumas and ranks 13th in the league with 14.9 points per game.

The Eagles have a 45-20 all-time series lead with the Pumas after winning the only meeting last year, 58-53. USI also has won nine of the last 10 meetings with Saint Joseph's in the PAC.

Game coverage for both contests, including live stats and audio broadcasts, is available at gousieagles.com. The games also can be heard on ESPN 106.7FM and WPSR 90.7FM.
