USI and #16 CSU battle to double-overtime tie

GREENVILLE, Tenn. – The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team and 16th-ranked Columbus State University battled to a 0-0 double-overtime tie during the first day of the Tusculum Pioneer Classic in Greenville, Tennessee. Both squads start the 2011 campaign with a 0-0-1 mark.

The first half saw the Cougars with the momentum in a scoreless first half. CSU outshot USI in the first half, 6-3, but all three of the Eagle shots were on-goal. The Cougars also led, 4-0, in corner kicks.

In the second half, the Eagles continued to hang with the ranked Cougars despite being outshot, 9-3, in the second half and 15-6 in regulation. USI and CSU continued to go back-and-forth through the 20 minutes of two “sudden victory” overtimes with neither squad able to score.

Overall, USI's defense held off a CSU attack that outshot the Eagles, 19-7, and had an 11-0 advantage in corner kicks. USI senior goalkeeper Stephanie Bodamer (Highland, Indiana) recorded her first shutout of the year and the 14th of her career by making seven saves to earn the tie.

The Eagles conclude action in the Pioneer Classic Sunday when they play Georgia College & State University. GCSU lost its season-opener with Lenior-Rhyne University, 2-1, in the early this evening.
