Eagles come back to Strassweg Field this weekend
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team returns to the road Wednesday at 7 p.m. when it travels to the University of North Alabama for a non-conference match-up. The Screaming Eagles come back to Strassweg Field at the end of the week to host Missouri University of Science & Technology Friday at 5 p.m. and Drury University Sunday at noon.
USI (1-2-1, 1-1-0 GLVC) is coming off a spectacular 3-1 upset of ninth-ranked Northern Kentucky University at Strassweg Field Sunday. The Eagles, who had not scored through the first three matches, exploded for three goals offensively by freshman forward
Makenzie Brinker (Evansville, Indiana), sophomore forward
Julia Kohnen (Florissant, Missouri), and junior midfielder
Paige Nuelle (St. Louis, Missouri).
Goalkeeper
Stephanie Bodamer (Highland, Indiana) stopped seven shots on-goal to preserve the victory and record her first victory of the year.
The 18th-ranked Lions of UNA (5-1-0) is the third ranked opponent for the Eagles in the first three weeks of the season. UNA started the year with five straight victories before dropping a 2-1 neutral-site decision Sunday to Lynn University.
USI leads the all-time series with UNA, 2-0-1, after the two squads battled to a 2-2 double-overtime tie at Strassweg Field in 2009. The Eagles won their first match in Florence in 2008, defeating the Lions, 1-0.
Missouri S&T (1-1-1, 1-1-0 GLVC) is at .500 through the first three matches of the season after posting a 0-0 tie with Southwest Baptist University, a 4-0 loss at Rockhurst University, and a 4-3 overtime win over William Jewell College. The Eagles lead the all-time series with the Miners, 6-3-0, and have won last two meetings.
Drury (2-1-1, 0-1-1 GLVC) is hosting Harding University Tuesday and travels to Kentucky Wesleyan College Friday before coming to Strassweg Field. The Panthers started the year with a pair of wins before going 0-1-1 in the GLVC last weekend with a loss at William Jewell and a double-overtime tie against Rockhurst.
USI trails Drury, 5-1-0, in the all-time series after winning a 1-0 overtime match at Strassweg Field last fall.
