EVANSVILLE, Ind.—
Senior second baseman Amanda Brendel had four hits, a home run, and a pair of RBIs as the University of Southern Indiana softball team swept Saint Joseph's College in a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader Sunday afternoon at the USI Softball Field.

The Screaming Eagles (17-15, 8-8 GLVC), who went 4-0 this weekend, won game one, 2-1, and game two, 6-2.

After spotting the visiting Pumas (13-18, 6-12 GLVC) a run in the top of the fourth inning of game one, the Eagles came roaring back with a tally in the last half of the fourth inning as Brendel led the frame off with a double before scoring on an RBI-single by sophomore outfielder Katherine Belsito.

With one out in the sixth inning, Brendel hit what appeared to be a shallow fly ball into rightfield that carried over the fence for her fifth home run of the year and a 2-1 lead for the Eagles.

The one-run advantage was enough for freshman pitcher Madeline Brink, who picked up her second straight win after giving up just one run off six hits. Brink improves to 8-7 with the decision.

Brendel, who was 3-for-3 in game one, opened the second game with an RBI-double in the bottom of the first inning to give the Eagles a 1-0 advantage. USI tacked on two more runs in the second inning on RBI-hits by freshman pitcher Kelsey Jankowski and sophomore designated player Stephanie Bittner.

Saint Joseph's, however, had four hits in the fourth inning to score twice and cut the Eagles' lead to 3-2.

The fourth inning ended in the Eagles' favor, though, as Saint Joseph's outfielder Stephanie Hash hit a double that scored one run and had the potential of scoring another run. Hash, however, over ran second base and was tagged out for the third out right before outfielder Kristin Paris crossed the plate for what would have been the Pumas' third run of the inning.

USI carried that momentum into the bottom of the fourth inning as it took advantage of three Saint Joseph's errors to score three times and increase its cushion to 6-2. Senior first baseman Brittany DeWeese had an RBI-single in the inning as the Eagles put the game out of reach.

Jankowski (6-2) earned the win after giving up two runs off seven hits and a walk in seven innings of work. It was her second complete-game victory of the weekend.

The Eagles start a six-game road trip Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. when they travel to Oakland City, Indiana, to take on Oakland City University in a Midwest Region doubleheader. USI resumes GLVC play Saturday at noon when it visits the University of Illinois Springfield.
