KISSIMMEE, Fla.—The University of Southern Indiana softball team rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Midwest Region foe Ashland University, 6-2, Wednesday evening in its final game of the Division II Rebel Spring Games. Earlier in the day, the Screaming Eagles fell to No. 23 Minnesota State University-Mankato, 8-3.

Trailing by a pair of runs in the top of the third inning against Ashland, senior first baseman Brittany DeWeese hit a two-run double to even the score at 2-2. Senior outfielder Reva LeDune-Bourgasser's RBI-single in the fifth inning gave the Eagles a 3-2 lead, while senior shortstop Dani Finkelstein's two-run single in the sixth inning gave USI a 5-2 advantage.

The Eagles (9-7), who went 3-0 against the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference at the Rebel Spring Games, scored on a wild pitch later in the inning to extend their lead to four runs.

Freshman pitcher Madeline Brink picked up the win after scattering two runs and nine hits throughout seven innings. Brink (4-2) struck out three batters as she won her third straight decision.

Minnesota State-Mankato (15-1) used a five-run third inning to sink the Eagles in their first game. The Mavericks took advantage of a pair of walks and had a three-run home run to jump out to a 5-0 lead.

USI, which trailed 6-0 after four innings, scored on a Finkelstein single in the bottom of the fifth inning, then plated two runs on junior third baseman/designated player Kristen O'Haver's pinch-hit, two-out double in the sixth inning.

Sophomore pitcher/infielder Stephanie Bittner was charged with the loss after giving up six runs off four hits and four walks in three-plus innings of work. She falls to 2-4 with the decision.

The Eagles return to action Saturday when they travel to St. Louis, Missouri, to take on Maryville University in their Great Lakes Valley Conference opener. First pitch for the doubleheader is slated for noon. Live stats and audio can be accessed at gousieagles.com.
