DECATUR, Ala.—The University of Southern Indiana softball team, through the first four games of the season, has yet to make past the fifth inning after posting an 8-0 victory in five innings over Ohio Dominican University and a 9-0 loss in five innings to Georgia College & State University Saturday afternoon at the UAH Charger Chillout.

USI (2-2), which had a five-inning win in its first game Friday and a five-inning loss in its second game, scored twice in the bottom of the second inning and two more times in the third frame to take a 4-0 lead over Ohio Dominican.

Sophomore outfielder Jessica McCullough had a two-run single in the second inning to put the Screaming Eagles on the scoreboard. Senior catcher/outfielder Dani Monks drove in the Eagles' fourth run with a single in the third inning.

Senior third baseman LeAnn Collins had an RBI-single to stake USI to a 5-0 lead in the fourth inning. Senior second baseman Amanda Brendel followed two batters later with a two-run double to put USI up 7-0. Collins' run-scoring sacrifice fly in the fifth inning ended the game via the eight-run rule as the Eagles picked up their second win of the year.

Freshman pitcher Madeline Brink earned her first collegiate victory after scattering seven hits throughout five innings. Brink (1-1) had a strikeout and did not issue any walks.

In USI's second game, Georgia C. & St. U. (4-10) plated a run with two outs in the top of the second inning to forge a 1-0 lead. The Bobcats took advantage of three walks and a fielding error to score two more runs in the third frame, then struck for three runs in the fourth frame to build a 7-0 cushion.

USI surrendered two more runs in the fifth inning as it lost via the eight-run rule.

The Eagles hit the ball well against the Bobcats, racking up six hits in the five innings. USI, however, stranded eight runners on base, including five in scoring position.

Freshman pitcher Kelsey Jankowski was charged with the loss in her first game inside the circle. Jankowski gave up five runs, three earned, off four hits in 3 1/3 innings of work. She also issued five walks.

USI concludes its opening weekend Sunday with games against Truman State University (9 a.m.) and the University of West Georgia (11 a.m.).
