SPRINGFIELD, Mo.—University of Southern Indiana volleyball Head Coach
Leah Mercer '02 is now the winningest coach in the program's history thanks to the Screaming Eagles' 25-20, 25-12, 25-20 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over host Drury University Sunday afternoon.
Mercer, a USI and North High School graduate, picked up her 116th career victory, surpassing her former coach Kelly Boyd, who posted a 115-109 mark from 1992-99. Mercer is now 116-84 in her six-plus seasons at the helm of the USI volleyball program.
The Eagles (11-5, 9-2 GLVC) dominated the match as they recorded a blistering .432 attacking percentage, including clips of .636 and .600 in the second and third sets, respectively. Senior middle blocker
Danielle LaGrange had 12 kills, seven digs, a pair of blocks, and a .556 attacking percentage to pace the Eagles.
Junior right side hitter
Emily Meyer had 11 kills and a .529 attacking percentage, while freshman outside hitter
Lauren DeShaney finished with 11 kills and a .476 attacking percentage.
Sophomore setter
Jorae Bradbury recorded a match-high 34 assists and a team-best eight digs for the Eagles, who have won five straight GLVC matches.
USI returns to action Tuesday at 6 p.m. (CDT) when it travels to Frankfort, Kentucky, to take on Kentucky State University. The Eagles compete in the GLVC/GLIAC Crossover next weekend in Aurora, Illinois. Pairings will be released later this evening or Monday morning.
