EVANSVILLE, Ind.—University of Southern Indiana Head Volleyball Coach
Leah Mercer '02 is just one win away from tying the program's all-time record for victories and needs just two victories to surpass her former coach, Kelly Boyd, for first place.
Mercer has her chance to tie the record Saturday at 5 p.m. in Rolla, Missouri, when the Screaming Eagles visit Great Lakes Valley Conference West Division leader Missouri University of Science & Technology. The crucial showdown could have a major impact, not only on the conference standings, but the NCAA II Midwest Region rankings.
USI (9-5, 7-2 GLVC) finishes its GLVC West Division slate Sunday at 1 p.m. when it visits Drury University in Springfield, Missouri. Match coverage, including live stats for both contests and video for the Missouri S&T match, can be found at

For Mercer, who is currently 114-84 in her six-plus seasons at the helm of the USI volleyball program, a win Saturday would not only tie her with Boyd, who was 115-109 from 1992-99, but it would give her squad a road win over a team that is tied for the overall lead in the GLVC standings.
Missouri S&T (13-4, 8-1 GLVC) will try to bounce back from a tough three-set loss to nationally-ranked Northern Kentucky University when it hosts Missouri Baptist University Wednesday night. The Miners have won 11 of its last 12 matches, including their first eight GLVC contests.
The Eagles, who are coming off wins against Rockhurst University and William Jewell College last weekend, defeated the Miners in three sets last year and are 6-0 all-time against Missouri S&T.
USI defeated Drury in five sets a year ago in Springfield to improve to 9-2 all-time against the Panthers.
The Panthers (10-7, 4-5 GLVC), who host Kentucky Wesleyan College Saturday evening, are coming off a three-set win over McKendree University on Monday after dropping matches to Northern Kentucky and Bellarmine University last weekend.
Following their weekend slate at Missouri S&T and Drury, the Eagles will head to Frankfort, Kentucky, to take on Kentucky State University Tuesday at 6 p.m. (CDT). The Thorobreds (17-8) are coming off a three-set loss to Lincoln Memorial University, but have won 17 of their last 20 matches.
USI leads the series since 1989, 7-0, after defeating Kentucky State in three sets last year at the Physical Activities Center.
