EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana volleyball team wasted little time dispatching of Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division foe Kentucky Wesleyan College Tuesday night at the Physical Activities Center.
USI (17-7, 12-2 GLVC) had a 10-3 run en route to a 25-16 win in the opening set before grabbing a 25-13 win in the second frame and a 25-19 victory in the third game to complete the sweep of the visiting Panthers in just under 75 minutes.
The Screaming Eagles, winners of 10 of their last 12 matches and their last eight GLVC bouts, racked up nine team blocks and held the Panthers to a .045 attacking percentage. USI also held Kentucky Wesleyan (6-20, 0-14 GLVC) to just 27 kills while forcing its opponent into 22 attacking errors.
Senior middle blocker
Danielle LaGrange, who was named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division II National Player of the Week earlier today, led the Eagles with five blocks and nine digs. Sophomore setter
Jorae Bradbury chipped in 33 assists, nine digs, and four blocks, while freshman defensive specialist
Candace Timberlake added nine digs.
Freshman outside hitter
Lauren DeShaney hammered down a match-high 13 kills, while fellow classmate
Fawn Ryan finished with seven kills and a .400 attacking percentage.
The Eagles return to action Friday at 7 p.m. when they host the University of Wisconsin-Parkside and Saturday at 3 p.m. when they host No. 20 Lewis University. Lewis defeated UW-Parkside in three sets Tuesday night to remain just a game back of USI in the GLVC standings.
