Eagles finish road trip in St. Louis

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team plays its final two road games of the regular season this weekend when it travels to St. Louis, Missouri, to play Maryville University Friday at 3:30 p.m. and the University of Missouri-St. Louis Sunday at noon.

The Screaming Eagles (5-6-2, 5-4-1 GLVC) enters the final third of the GLVC schedule tied for sixth in the league standings and looking to nail down their third-straight trip to the conference tournament. They also are still in the hunt to snag a first-round home match in the tournament.
 
USI moved up in the standings last weekend when it recorded its first road win of the season, defeating Lewis University 2-1 in double overtime. The squad strengthened its position by battling the University of Wisconsin-Parkside to a 0-0 double-overtime tie.
 
Leading the way for the Eagles last weekend was senior goalkeeper Stephanie Bodamer (Highland, Indiana). Bodamer had a 0.43 goals against average in the two matches, making 16 saves. The shutout of UW-Parkside was her third of the season.

Overall offensively, junior forward Susan Ellsperman (Newburgh, Indiana) is USI top scorer with 11 points on four goals and three assists. She also has one of USI's game-winning goals.
 
The Saints of Maryville (3-9-1, 3-7-0 GLVC) have been on a roll the last two weeks, winning three of four matches after going winless in their first nine matches. Maryville split last week with a 3-0 loss at Rockhurst University and a 3-0 win at William Jewell College.
 
USI and Maryville have split the first two matches of the all-time series with each team winning on the visiting field.
 
The Tritons of UMSL (5-6-0, 4-5-0 GLVC) are right behind the Eagles in the GLVC standings, trailing by one-and-a-half games. UMSL has lost four of its last six matches, but split last week with a 1-0 win at WJC and a 2-1 loss at Rockhurst.
 
USI trails in the all-time series to UMSL, 9-7-0, but has won the last two meetings. The Eagles defeated the Tritons, 5-0, last year at Strassweg Field.
 
Following the road trip, the Eagles finish the regular season with three-straight home games. USI is scheduled to host the University of Indianapolis October 21; Quincy University October 23 for Senior Day; and Kentucky Wesleyan College October 26.
