Eagles open homestand with a win, 76-50

EVANSVILLE, Ind. –
The eighth-ranked University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team won its seventh straight game with a 76-50 victory over Maryville University Thursday night at the Physical Activities Center. USI raises its record to 12-1 overall and 4-1 in the GLVC, while Maryville falls to 3-8, 0-4 GLVC.
 
The Screaming Eagles used an 8-0 run midway through the first half to methodically build an 11-points lead, 38-27, by the intermission. USI shot 55.6 percent from beyond the three-point arc (5-9) and outrebounded Maryville by 15 (27-12) in the first 20 minutes.
 
 The Eagles took total command with a 12-2 run to increase the lead to 20 points, 49-29, with 15:49 to play. USI would eventually lead by as many as 26 points twice near the end of the game, including the 76-50 final.
 
Leading the Eagles in the scoring column was junior forward Isaac McClure (Paducah, Kentucky), who posted his third straight outing in double-figures with a game-high 14 points. Senior guard Jared Rehmel (Jasonville, Indiana) followed McClure with a season-best tying 13 points.
 
Rehmel was a blistering 5-of-7 from the field and 3-of-5 from beyond the three-point arc.
 
The USI double-figure scorers were rounded out by the 12-point performance of senior forward Nick Duncheon (Montgomery, Indiana). Duncheon was 4-of-7 from the field with a pair of three-point field goals.
 
Overall, USI shot 46.4 percent from the field (26-56) and 50 percent from long range (9-18), while dominating boards once again, 46-23. USI senior center Mohamed Ntumba (Kinshasa, Congo) led the Eagles with 10 rebounds, reaching double-digits on the glass for the fifth time in six games.
 
The Eagles continue the three-game homestand Saturday when they host the Miners of Missouri University of Science & Technology. Missouri S&T are 6-6 overall and 2-3 in the GLVC after losing at Kentucky Wesleyan College, 87-78, this evening.
