Eagles fall to ninth in national poll

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The 9
th-ranked University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team completes its four-game homestand during Homecoming week when it welcomes Lewis University and the University of Wisconsin-Parkside to the Physical Activities Center. The Screaming Eagles are scheduled to tip off against Lewis Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and against UW-Parkside Saturday at 3:15 p.m.

USI (16-2, 8-2 GLVC) is 1-1 during the current homestand after losing a heartbreaker to the University of Indianapolis, 70-68, on Saturday, snapping an 11-game winning streak for the Eagles. The loss also dropped USI five slots in the NABC/NCAA Division II Top 25 poll from fourth to ninth.
Junior guard
Brandon Hogg (Edwardsville, Illinois) led the Eagles in the loss with 16 points, while senior guard
Kevin Gant (Indianapolis, Indiana) followed with 13 points. Hogg, who also had a team-high 21 points in the win over Kentucky Wesleyan College, was on fire last week for USI, averaging a team-best 18.5 points per contest. He shot 50 percent from the field (10-20) and a remarkable 71.4 percent from beyond the three-point arc (5-7).
For the season, senior guard #C.J. Trotter# (Hopkinsville, Kentucky) has the team lead with 14.3 points per contest. Senior center #Mohamed Ntumba (Kinshasa, Congo) is second on the team with 13.1 points per outing, while grabbing a team-high 8.6 rebounds per contest.
The Flyers of Lewis (12-9, 5-5 GLVC) are tied for the lead in the GLVC North Division with Saint Joseph's College. Lewis split its home games last week and is .500 in its eight games since the first of the year.
Senior guard Dennis Thomas leads the Flyers with 16.9 points per contest in 2010-11.
USI leads the all-time series, 37-21, after taking the only meeting last year, 80-57, in Romeoville, Illinois. The Eagles also hold a 7-2 lead in meetings at the PAC since 2000.
The Rangers of UW-Parkside (7-11, 4-7 GLVC) have struggled the last two weeks, losing four of the last five games. UW-Parkside did split two games at home last week.
Junior guard Leneal Harris and freshman guard Jordan Mach lead the Rangers with 15.4 and 15.1 points per game, respectively, this season.
The Eagles lead the all-time series, 23-7, after winning the only meeting last year, 78-67, in Kenosha, Wisconsin. USI also holds a 5-1 lead over UW-Parkside at the PAC since 2000.
