SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- University of Southern Indiana senior Matt Hancock (Ft. Branch, Indiana) won the University of Illinois-Springfield Invitational as an individual and led the Screaming Eagles to a third place finish in the 12 team tournament. The two-day tournament was the spring opener for the Eagles.
Hancock paced the field by shooting a 147 (74-73) and led both rounds. He won the tournament by six strokes over Rockhurst University's Clark Fry, who had a 153 (76-77). Hancock's second round 73 also matched a season best.
Following Hancock was senior Drew Mathew (New Harmony, Indiana), who placed sixth with a two-round 156 (83-73).
The Eagles resume the spring season March 27-28 at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Invitational, which is being held at the Otter Creek Golf Course in Columbus, Indiana.
