DECATUR, Ala.—The University of Southern Indiana softball team surrendered 23 hits and 21 runs Sunday as it fell to Ferris State University, 8-1, and the University of West Alabama, 13-4, in five innings to close out the University of Alabama-Huntsville Charger Chillout.

USI (0-6) got an RBI-single from junior first baseman Brittany DeWeese in the top of the first inning against Ferris State to take a 1-0 lead. The Bulldogs (2-4), however, scored eight unanswered runs, including five in the bottom of the sixth frame, to hand USI its fifth straight loss.

Sophomore pitcher Hadley Clark was charged with the loss after giving up eight runs off nine hits in 5.2 innings of work.

In the second game, the Eagles got a two-run shot from DeWeese in the bottom of the first inning to tie the contest at 2-2.

West Alabama (7-3), however, scored four times in the third inning and five times in the fourth frame to blow the game wide open.

Junior centerfielder Reva LeDune-Bourgasser had a two-run blast in the fourth inning to cut USI's deficit to seven runs, but the Tigers scored two more runs in the fifth inning to earn the victory via the eight-run rule.

Junior hurler Dawn McClellan was charged with the loss after giving up six runs off eight hits in three innings of work.

USI returns to action Saturday when it travels to Greenville, Tennessee, to compete in the Tusculum College Classic.
