EVANSVILLE, Ind. — The 2nd-ranked University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team completed the homestand sweep and a series sweep with a 91-74 victory over the University of Indianapolis Saturday afternoon at the Physical Activities Center. USI raises its record to 23-0 overall and 14-0 in the GLVC, while UIndy falls to 12-13, 6-10 GLVC.
The Screaming Eagles and the Greyhounds started the game trading baskets for the first four minutes of the game. USI's junior guard #C.J. Trotter# (Hopkinsville, Kentucky) gave the Eagles the lead for good at with a three-pointer to make the score 14-11 with 12:46 left in the opening stanza. USI hit the gas and began to pull away from UIndy, building a 22 point lead by the intermission, 56-34.
The Eagles extended the margin to 29 points, 63-34, in the opening moments of the second half when the Greyhounds decided to make an offensive push of their own. UIndy cut the margin to 12 points three times in the middle of the second half, but the USI defense stopped the rally and push the lead back to as many as 20 points in the final minutes.
The USI defense was led by junior guard Brandon Hogg (Edwardsville, Illinois), who had five of the Eagles 10 steals today.
Senior forward Tyrone Bradshaw (Cincinnati, Ohio) led USI on the scoreboard with his second double-double in three games, posting 22 points and 12 rebounds. He was joined in double-figure scoring by senior guard Jamar Smith (Peoria, Illinios), who had 15 points, and senior guard Marvin Gray (Freeport, Bahamas), who dropped in 12 points.
The Eagles conclude the homestand Monday when they host 8th-ranked Kentucky Wesleyan College at 7:30 p.m. The Panthers defeated Northern Kentucky University, 80-60, this afternoon to raise their record to 25-3 overall and 14-2 in the GLVC.
USI defeated KWC back at the Sportscenter in January, 74-69, but the Panther lead the all-time series, 45-34. USI was led in the January win over KWC by Smith, who had 15 points.
