USI completes sweep of four-game homestand
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team completed a sweep of the season-opening homestand with a 98-62 victory over Brescia University Tuesday night at the Physical Activities Center. USI is 4-0 to start the 2010-11 campaign, while Brescia is 4-3.
The Screaming Eagles flew out to a 7-0 lead in the first five minutes of the game and used a 14-3 run midway through the opening half to separate themselves from the Bearcats. USI finished the first 20 minutes with a 21-point advantage, 47-26.
USI hit 50 percent of its shots in the first half (17-34) and had a 27-13 lead on the boards.
The USI offensive engine continued to hum in the second half as the Eagles doubled the margin to 42 points, 88-46, with 8:23 left. The Eagles were a blistering 67.7 percent from the field (21-31) in the second half.
USI was led in the victory by junior forward
Isaac McClure (Paducah, Kentucky), who had a season-high 21 points off the bench. McClure was a red-hot nine-of-12 from the field tonight, three-of-four from the line, and has hit scorching 75 percent from the field (18-24) in the last two contests.
Senior forward
Nick Duncheon (Montgomery, Indiana) followed McClure in the scoring column with 17 points, while senior guard #C.J. Trotter# (Hopkinsville, Kentucky) rounded out the double-figure scorers with 13 points. The Eagles' scorers were put into position by senior guard
Kevin Gant (Indianapolis, Indiana), who had a team-high six assists.
Overall, the Eagles shot 58.5 percent as a team (38-65) and outrebounded the Bearcats 45-26. USI also had 10 steals as a team and forced 16 Brescia turnovers.
USI will be idle through Thanksgiving before starting the 2010-11 GLVC scheduled December 2 at Northern Kentucky University. The Eagles finish the first GLVC weekend of the year by hosting Bellarmine University on December 4.
