EVANSVILLE, Ind.—University of Southern Indiana volleyball Head Coach Leah Mercer and senior defensive specialist Janae Curnutt each recorded career milestones Friday night as the Screaming Eagles breezed past the University of Wisconsin-Parkside 25-18, 25-17, 25-19 at the Physical Activities Center.

Mercer became the second coach in the program's history to record her 100th victory. Mercer, a USI and North High School graduate, is just 15 wins shy of matching her former coach, Kelly Boyd, for first place on USI's all-time list.

Curnutt became the eighth player in the program's history to reach the 1,000-dig plateau when she recorded her second dig early in opening set. Curnutt currently has 1,007 career digs, just 56 shy of seventh-place on the Eagles' all-time list, after finishing the match with nine.

As for the match, the Eagles dominated the early going, recording a .324 attacking percentage en route to a seven-point decision in the first frame.

Sophomore outside hitter Abbi Williams aided the Eagles in the first set, racking up four of her match and career-high tying 12 kills.

USI used an early 5-1 spurt and a .375 attacking percentage to earn an eight-point win the second set. Junior middle blocker Danielle LaGrange had eight of her 11 kills and hit .727 in the second frame as the Eagles took a decisive two-set lead in the match.

The Eagles (13-9, 6-3 GLVC), who improved to 6-1 at the PAC this season and have won five of the last six GLVC matches, used a 9-0 run to turn a slim 14-13 deficit into a commanding 22-14 lead in the final set. Senior outside hitter Brittani Oliver had six of her 11 kills and hit .375 in the third frame to help the Eagles finish the Rangers in three sets.

Freshman setter Jorae Bradbury aided the Eagles by racking up 35 assists, seven digs, four kills, and three blocks. Freshman libero Kayla Heldman had a match-high 21 digs, while Oliver finished with 14 digs.

As a team, the Eagles recorded a .325 attacking percentage while holding the Rangers (16-8, 5-4 GLVC), who were 10th in the latest NCAA II Midwest Region rankings, to a .121 attacking clip.

USI returns to action Saturday at 3 p.m. when it hosts No. 16 Lewis University. The Flyers (18-4, 8-1 GLVC) defeated Kentucky Wesleyan College in three sets Friday night in Owensboro, Kentucky.
