ROLLA, Mo.—The University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team struggled to get into any type of offensive rhythm Thursday evening as it fell to Missouri University of Science and Technology, 73-51. The loss ends USI's 12-game winning streak.

USI (13-3, 4-1 GLVC) shot a season-low 26.9 percent (14-52) from the floor, 14.3 percent (2-14) from behind the arc, and was outrebounded 46-24 as the host Miners improved to 10-1 all-time against the Screaming Eagles.

The Eagles led early, but a 15-3 run staked the Missouri S&T (8-5, 3-2 GLVC) to a commanding 28-11 lead with eight minutes to play in the opening period.

Missouri S&T (8-5, 3-2 GLVC) shot 60.7 percent (17-28) from the field and outrebounded the Eagles 22-12 in the first half as it took a 43-29 lead into the intermission. The Miners used a 10-0 run to begin the second half and blow the game wide open.

As difficult as it was to get points on the board in the first half, it was even tougher in the second period as USI shot just 22.7 percent (5-22) in the final 20 minutes. The Eagles had just two assists while committing 15 turnovers as they turned out their worst offensive output of the regular season.

Junior guard Amie Newhart led the Eagles with 16 points, 10 of which came from the free throw line. Newhart drained all of her free throw attempts as USI connected on 21-of-24 (.875) from the charity stripe.

USI returns to action Saturday when it visits GLVC newcomer Maryville University. The Saints (5-9, 1-4 GLVC) fell to No. 3 University of Indianapolis, 80-70, Thursday evening in St. Louis, Missouri.
