EVANSVILLE, Ind.
– The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team could not hold onto a 2-0 first half lead and had to settle for a 2-2, double-overtime tie with the University of North Alabama Wednesday afternoon at Strassweg Field. USI takes its overall record to 3-3-1 and concludes the five-game homestand 2-2-1, while UNA goes to 6-1-1 in 2009.
The Screaming Eagles struck early with a goal by freshman forward Susan Ellsperman at 13:47. Ellsperman was assisted on her team-best fourth goal of the year by sophomore forward Meagan Kempf.
USI made the score 2-0 eight minutes later when senior midfielder Shauni Boudia scored her first goal of the season at 21:42. Boudia made the most of two shots by knocking in her own rebound after taking a pass from Kempf, who was credited with her second assist of the match.
The Lions roared back with a pair of goals to tie the match in the first 20 minutes of the second half. UNA had several opportunities to take their first lead late in regulation, but USI sophomore goalkeeper Stephanie Bodamer stood tall in the goal making a pair of saves and seven overall in the match.
In the overtimes, neither team could take advantage on the offensive ends. USI had a 3-2 advantage in shots during the first overtime, while UNA had the only shot of the second.
USI returns to GLVC action this weekend when it travels to the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Friday and Lewis University Sunday. Kick-off is 1:15 p.m. at UW-Parkside and Noon at Lewis.
The Rangers of UW-Parkside (4-0-1, 3-0-0 GLVC) are in the midst of a four-game winning streak after starting the year with a tie. UW-Parkside swept its conference road trip last weekend, defeating Maryville University and the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
USI leads the all-time series with UW-Parkside, 8-7-0, but lost to the Rangers last fall, 5-0. The teams have split the last four meetings.
The Flyers of Lewis (1-3-2, 0-2-1 GLVC) are winless in their last five matches, posting a pair of ties and three losses. Lewis started the conference schedule with a pair losses before forcing a 1-1 double-overtime tie at Maryville.
The Eagles lead the all-time series with the Flyers, 9-3-1, and have won four meetings. USI won last year's match-up, 1-0, in the 2008 season finale.
