EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team hosts a second-straight ranked GLVC opponent Friday when the 12th-ranked University of Indianapolis comes to visit. Kick-off for Friday's match is 5 p.m.
The Screming Eagles (2-2-0) are at the .500 mark both for the season and for the homestand. USI started the five-game home series with a win last week over 14th-ranked Northern Kentucky University, 1-0, to begin GLVC action, but dropped a non-conference match to Division I Western Illinois University Sunday.
For the season, USI has score eight goal through four games and is on pace to nearly double last season's offensive production. Leading the way is senior midfielder Kara Georgeff, sophomore forward Nancy Newcomer, and freshman midfielder Paige Nuelle with two goals each.
Newcomer is the Eagles' top scorer overall with five points on two goals and one assist.
The Greyhounds of UIndy (4-0-0, 1-0-0 GLVC) have been perfect so far this season, including a 3-0 win over the University of Missouri-St. Louis to start GLVC play last Sunday. Freshman forward Shelby Spinelli leads the Greyhounds after four matches with eight points on two goals and four assists.
The all-time series between USI and UIndy is tied 7-7 with the Eagles taking four of the last six matches.
Following the match-up with UIndy, the Eagles conclude the weekend by hosting Saint Joseph's College (0-3-0, 0-1-0 GLVC). The Pumas, who play at the University of Missouri-St. Louis Friday before coming to Evansville, are still looking for their first victory of the year and started GLVC action Sunday with a 5-0 loss to conference-newcomer Maryville University.
The Pumas lead the all-time series, 9-5-2, with USI and SJC tying the last two seasons.
