BIG RAPIDS, Mich.—Junior outside hitter Brittani Oliver and senior middle blocker Ashley Henricks combined for 26 kills and .480 attacking percentage to lead the University of Southern Indiana volleyball team to a 23-25, 25-20, 25-18, 25-18 come-from-behind victory over West Virginia State University Saturday morning at the Ferris State University Bulldog Classic.
Oliver finished the match with 15 kills, a .424 attacking percentage, three service aces, and nine digs, while Henricks added 11 kills, a .588 attacking clip, and five blocks.
The Screaming Eagles (3-0) rallied late in the first set to cut a four-point deficit to one before the Yellow Jackets closed the frame out to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
USI hit .441 in the second frame and used runs of 6-0 and 5-0 to even the match at a set each. The Eagles built large leads in both the third and fourth frames and held off late Yellow Jacket rallies to close the match out in four sets.
Senior setter Melanie Pund rang up 38 assists and set the Eagles' offense to a .287 attacking clip for the match. She added five kills, a .364 attacking clip, three aces, and a team-high 13 digs.
Sophomore middle blocker Danielle LaGrange chipped in nine kills, four aces, and a pair of blocks, while junior defensive specialist Janae Curnutt added 10 digs.
USI finishes the FSU Bulldog Classic when they take on NCAA II Midwest Region foe Saginaw Valley State University later this afternoon. Match time is slated for 1:30 p.m. (CDT).
