BLOOMINGTON, Ind.—University of Southern Indiana junior
Christy Dixon (Owensboro, Kentucky) recorded an NCAA II provisional qualifying time of 11 minutes, 17.42 second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase Friday night at the Billy Hayes Invitational.
Dixon finished seventh in the steeplechase, which was the first time in her career that the indoor All-American has competed in the event.
Junior
Brandon Campbell (Portage, Indiana) led the Screaming Eagles' men with a fifth-place showing in the steeplechase at the Billy Hayes Invitational. Campbell, however, could not better his provisional qualifying time that he set last week at the GLVC Championships as he finished the race Friday night with a time of nine minutes, 37.82 seconds.
USI also had three runners compete Thursday evening at the Dr. Keeler Invitational in Naperville, Illinois. Freshman
Dustin Emerick (Elmwood, Illinois) was 11th in the 5,000 meters, while freshman
Andrew Dixon (Petersburg, Indiana) and senior
Bryan Phillips (Kokomo, Indiana) were 16th and 18th, respectively, in the 10,000 meters.
USI returns to action May 21-23 when it competes at the NCAA II Outdoor Championships in San Angelo, Texas.
At least one USI runner will be in competition at the national meet as junior
Mary Ballinger (Chesterton, Indiana) has posted automatic qualifying times in the 1,500 meters and the steeplechase. Emerick and sophomore
David Goodman (Valparaiso, Indiana) also have posted strong provisional marks in the 10,000 meters and the steeplechase, respectively, while
Christy Dixon, Campbell, and freshman
Adrienne Curtis (Louisville, Indiana) are all on the bubble.
