Box Score: Indianapolis 9, Southern Indiana 2
CHILLICOTHE, Ohio – The University of Southern Indiana baseball team bowed out of the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional with a 9-2 loss to the University of Indianapolis Saturday evening in Chillicothe, Ohio. The regional is being played at the V.A. Memorial Stadium, the home of the Frontier League's Chillicothe Paints.
For the second straight week, the Screaming Eagles could not get past the Greyhounds and right-handed pitcher Vince Saisi. The Greyhounds and Saisi knocked the Eagles out of the GLVC Tournament a week ago and completed a sweep in the regional tonight.
Saisi no-hit the Eagles for four-plus innings and was relieved after walking his third and fourth batters of the game in the fifth. Both USI base-runners in the fifth would score on sophomore catcherÂ
Dylan Mooney (St. Charles, Missouri) 2-run double off of UIndy left-hander Andrew Werner.
Mooney's double cut the lead to 6-2, but that would be as close as the Eagles would get.
The fifth-seeded Greyhound (42-19) struck early against Eagles' senior right-handed startÂ
Michael Dewig (Haubstadt, Indiana) with a two runs on a home run in the first and three runs in the second to lead 5-0. UIndy would make the score 6-0 in the fifth with a tally off of USI sophomore right-handerÂ
Trevor Leach (Danville, Indiana).
UIndy put the game away in the ninth with three runs and the 9-2 final.
The Eagles conclude the 2009 campaign with a 39-19 record, marking the second time in three seasons that USI has finished 20-games over .500. The 39 victories are the fourth most in a season in the history of the program.
USI is 118-62 (.656) in three campaigns under the direction of Head CoachÂ
Tracy Archuleta, compared to 67-96 (.411) in the three previous years.
