HILLSDALE, Mich.—University of Southern Indiana men's track and field sophomore
David Goodman (Valparaiso, Indiana) and junior
Brandon Campbell (Portage, Indiana) posted NCAA II provisional qualifying times in the 3,000-meter steeplechase Friday at the Hillsdale "Gina" Relays.
Goodman finished fourth in the event with a season-best time of nine minutes, 12.65 seconds, a mark that currently ranks among the top 10 in nation and was less than four ticks off an automatic qualifying time. Earlier this season, Goodman ran the steeplechase in nine minutes, 21.47 seconds at the Washington University Invitational.
Campbell also reached a provisional qualifying time after just missing the nine minute, 26.00-second standard at the Washington Invitational earlier this year. Campbell finished the steeplechase Friday in nine minutes, 24.26 seconds, a mark he will likely need to improve in order to make the final cut for the NCAA II Outdoor Championships next month.
Friday's performance marked the second time in his career Campbell has reach an NCAA II provisional qualifying time in the steeplechase. He ran the event in nine minutes, 24.00 seconds at the Vanderbilt Invitational as a freshman in 2007.
USI wraps up the weekend and its final tune-up before next weekend's GLVC Championships when it competes at the Stan Lyons Invitational Saturday in Indianapolis, Indiana.
