EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The threat of inclement weather has forced the University of Southern Indiana softball team to postpone its 2009 GLVC home-opening doubleheader against the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.
USI and UW-Parkside, which were originally slated to play Saturday, will play a twinbill Monday at noon at the USI Softball Field.
The Screaming Eagles (8-22, 0-4 GLVC) will now open their 2009 GLVC home schedule Sunday when they host No. 21 Lewis University in a noon doubleheader.
USI is looking for its first GLVC win of the year after a tough road stretch that saw the Eagles drop both sets of their twinbills at the University of Missouri-St. Louis and Missouri University of Science and Technology.
Junior outfielder
Lindsay Raikes (Speedway, Indiana) leads the Eagles with a .296 batting average and brings a four-game hitting streak into this weekend's contests. Sophomore first baseman
Brittany DeWeese (Evansville, Indiana) has belted a team-high four home runs and driven in a team-best 13 runs.
The Flyers of Lewis, who have won three straight games, enter Sunday's doubleheader with a 23-10 overall mark and a 5-3 record in GLVC play. The Rangers of UW-Parkside are 10-12 overall, 4-4 in the GLVC, and have lost two straight heading into their doubleheader Sunday at Kentucky Wesleyan College.
