EVANSVILLE, Ind. — The 10th-ranked University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team crossed the century mark for the fourth straight game as it defeated Brevard College, 106-61, Tuesday evening at Physical Activities Center. USI rises to 11-0 overall, while Brevard falls to 5-3 in 2009-10.
The four-straight 100-point games is a school record for the Screaming Eagles. USI had scored 100-or-more points in three straight games six times previously.
In the blink of an eye, the Eagles flew out to a 9-0 lead to start the game and never looked back. USI finished the first half with a 25-point margin, 55-30, and would extend the lead to as many as 47 points in the second half, 95-48.
Defensively, USI held its opponent to less than 40 percent from the field for the second straight game. Brevard shot 37.7 percent from the field (23-61) and had nine shots blocked. USI senior forward Tyrone Bradshaw (Cincinnati, Ohio) led the way with a game-high and career-best seven blocked shots.
Every USI player contributed on the offensive half of the court with four reaching double figures. Leading the way was senior guard Jamar Smith (Peoria, Illinois) with a game-high 23 points and a team-best seven rebounds.
Smith was followed in the scoring column by Bradshaw with 15 points, while senior center Jeron Lewis (Ft. Wayne, Indiana) and junior guard #C.J. Trotter# (Hopkinsville, Kentucky) had 10 points each.
USI resumes GLVC action and starts 2010 calendar year by hosting the University of Illinois at Springfield January 2 at 3:15 p.m. and Saint Joseph's College January 4 at 7:30 p.m. The Prairie Stars of Illinois-Springfield are 4-3 overall and 1-1 in the GLVC, while SJC, which plays at Kentucky Wesleyan College Saturday before coming to Evansville, is 6-4 overall and 0-2 in the league.
