QUINCY, Ill.—The University of Southern Indiana volleyball team recorded a 25-21, 25-20, 25-17 victory over Quincy University Saturday afternoon at the Pepsi Arena to finish the regular season with its season-best fifth straight victory.
Junior outside hitter Brittani Oliver led the Screaming Eagles with 15 kills and a .464 attacking percentage, while senior setter Melanie Pund had 37 assists and three service aces.
USI (17-13, 9-5 GLVC) used a late 6-2 run and a .333 attacking percentage to grab the four-point victory in the opening set. Oliver had seven kills and a .467 attacking percentage in the first stanza as the Eagles grabbed the 1-0 lead in the match.
The Eagles used a .300 attacking percentage and a strong defensive performance to gain the upper hand in the second game. USI forced Quincy (7-21, 4-10 GLVC) into nine attacking errors and held the host Hawks to a .057 attacking percentage as the Eagles picked up the five-point win to extend their match lead to 2-0.
Senior outside hitter Courtney Bealor had five kills and a .625 attacking percentage to lead the Eagles in the third set. USI used a 9-1 run and a .760 side-out percentage to pick up the eight-point victory in the third frame and close out the match in three games.
Bealor finished the match with 10 kills, while junior defensive specialist Janae Curnutt and sophomore libero Krista Coccaro each had a team-high 12 digs.
The Eagles, who will be the sixth seed in the GLVC Tournament, open post-season play against the University of Missouri-St. Louis in the three-six match-up Friday at noon in Romeoville, Illinois.
