Eagles have six players score in double-figures

EVANSVILLE, Ind. — The University of Southern Indiana overpowered Tiffin University, 93-73, Monday evening at the Physical Activities Center. USI raises its record to 2-0 on the young season, while Tiffin falls to 0-2.

The Screaming Eagles were firing cylinders against the Dragons with six players scoring in double figures. Senior forward/center Jeron Lewis (Ft. Wayne, Indiana) and senior guard Jamar Smith (Peoria, Illinois) led the scoring barrage with 16 points each.

Lewis and Smith were followed by junior forward Nick Duncheon (Montgomery, Indiana) with a career-high tying 15 points. Duncheon and Smith hit four three-point field goals each in the win.

The USI offensive attack was rounded out by junior forward #C.J. Trotter# (Hopkinsville, Kentucky), senior forward Tyrone Bradshaw (Cincinnati, Ohio), and junior center Mohamed Ntumba (Kinshasa, Congo). Trotter helped USI to a 48-38 halftime lead by scoring 11 of his 13 points in the first half, while Bradshaw and Ntumba dropped in 12 points and 11 points, respectively.

The Eagles also owned the glass in the victory, outrebounding the Dragons, 34-23. Lewis posted his second straight double-double with his game-high 10 rebounds, while Bradshaw was second with eight boards.

USI took control of the game in the first half with an 11-2 run, building a 33-22 margin with 7:29 left before the intermission. The Eagles would go on to lead by as many as 15 points, 48-33, and settle for a 10-point, 48-38, at the break.

In the second half, USI would increase the lead to 24 points, 86-62, before cruising to the 93-73 final.

The Eagles will break for the Thanksgiving holiday before resuming action in the Bill Joergens Memorial Tournament November 27-28. The tournament features USI and Bellarmine University from the GLVC; Michigan Tech University from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Conference; and the University of Minnesota Duluth from the Northern Sun Conference. Bellarmine is currently ranked second nationally in the NABC/Division II Top 25 Preseason Poll.
