EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana volleyball team returns to the Physical Activities Center for a big two-match homestand that has the Screaming Eagles set to host No. 12 University of Indianapolis Friday at 7 p.m. and Saint Joseph's College Saturday at 3 p.m.
USI (10-8, 4-2 GLVC), which is currently tied for fourth in the GLVC standings, has won two straight matches and three of its last four. The Eagles posted three-set sweeps at Kentucky Wesleyan College and Maryville University last week and are looking to carry that momentum into this weekend as they attempt to defeat Indianapolis for the first time since 2005.
Senior middle blocker Ashley Henricks continues to lead the Eagles at the net as she is attacking at a team-best .343 pace, good enough for fourth in the league, and averaging a team-high 1.02 blocks per set. Henricks ranks second in the GLVC with 1.35 blocks per frame against conference opposition.
Sophomore middle blocker Danielle LaGrange has had the hot hand in league play, ranking fifth in the conference with a .355 attacking percentage against GLVC teams. Junior outside hitter Brittani Oliver continues to pace the Eagle hitters, and is seventh in the conference with 3.11 kills per set.
Indianapolis (20-1, 5-1 GLVC) has been one of the hottest teams in the country this year as it sports the GLVC's most efficient attack and the league's stingiest defense. The Greyhounds are attacking at a .292 pace while holding their opposition to a mere .129 attacking percentage.
Saint Joseph's (9-11, 3-3 GLVC), which visits Kentucky Wesleyan College Friday night, enters the weekend having won three straight matches. The Pumas have been one of the conference's top serving teams this season as they are averaging 2.13 aces per set, good enough for second in the GLVC.
Following this weekend's action, the Eagles travel to Lansing, Michigan, to take part in the Asics GLIAC/GLVC Crossover October 16-17. Opponents will be announced following the conclusion of this weekend's contests.
